Tracking individual vehicles @ 100 km/h

Trafsense® was selected by the Swedish Transport Administration (STA) as reference measurement system on STA’s test site consisting of 2+2 carriageways. The position and lane of each individual vehicle are updated 65 times per second, meaning that a vehicle typically moves less than 0.43 m between each Trafsense® update.

The Swedish Transport Administration’s 880 m test site at a 2+2 section of E16 in Borlänge (Sweden), speed limit 100 km/h

The speed limit is 100 km/h and Trafsense® ensures that the measurement data from the STA’s different point sensors along the test site can be correctly correlated to the passing individual vehicles. This is due to Trafsense® capability of identifying lane changes as well as overtaking without losing track of the individual vehicle. Customized data formats and interfaces have been developed to apply real-time Trafsense® data for studies of individual vehicle behavior, traffic patterns, and traffic statistics:

Note that in total four vehicles in the right lane slow down and exit around 720 m. The real-time Trafsense® position data for each vehicle are updated 65 times per second.

The Trafsense® interrogation unit is located in a 19” rack in the red shed together with technical infrastructure for other sensor technologies installed by the Swedish Transport Administration.
